  • Published in academic journals
    • for example, The International Review of Hydrobiology, Journal of Chemometrics, Humanities Review Journal etc...
  • Usually multiple pages long, reporting the results of an experiment or analyzing a specific topic in depth
  • Includes references and uses a standard citation style, such as MLA, APA, or CSE
  • Authors are experts in the article’s subject matter and typically have university credentials

Search for scholarly articles in the library’s databases

To access a particular database, first click on its name (e.g. Academic Search Complete) and login with your CUE email and password.

Popular Articles

  • Often magazine, newspaper, or other media articles
  • Shorter in length
  • Published in magazines that are written for the general public
    • Ex: The New York Times, Maclean’s, National Geographic, etc.
  • Often they do not include a bibliography
  • Often do not follow a standardised citation style
  • Authors are often reporters, not academic experts in their article’s subject matter
  • Illustrations are included for marketing or aesthetic appeal

Search for popular articles in internet search engines (like Google).
