Indigenous Studies

Welcome

This research guide provides access to sources for Indigenous information.

Indigenous knowledge lies within the realms of ceremony and protocol as ancestral wisdom, spiritual guidance, and reverence for the natural elements bridge together complex philosophies and ontologies.

Everything within the universe is connected and acknowledges those that cannot be seen within many Indigenous perspectives. With that said, the exploitation and misunderstandings of Indigenous history and knowledge has been in contention since contact.

While there are sources still available to fuel these misconceptions, we ask you, as an academic, to think critically about many sources that are still in the library collection. While we cannot change the past, we certainly can move forward together acknowledging the spiritual beliefs and values held by Indigenous Nations, especially those within Treaty Six.

Knowledge obtained from the Elders within the Indigenous Knowledge and Research Center (IKRC) at CUE should follow the offering of protocol. Danielle Powder, Manager of the IKRC, is available by request to share this cultural teaching (danielle.powder@concordia.ab.ca).
