Step 3 - Read & Write

Pay close attention to what the assignment asks you to do with the articles - this will impact which ones you choose and how you write about them. 

As you read the articles, consider how they fit together to shape your understanding of the topic as a whole. Select the most significant articles to write about in your assignment and to share in your presentation (if required).

For example, if your assignment might ask you to critically analyze and evaluate current literature (peer reviewed articles) about your topic and to select three articles to summarize, compare, contrast, and draw conclusions in response to your inquiry.

  • Don't just summarize the articles, remember to compare, contrast, and draw conclusions too.
  • Don't just pick the first 3 articles you find, remember to read many summaries, then read some articles, then select the ones that are the most informative about your topic.
  • Make sure the articles you select meet all of the requirements stated in your assignment. Are they peer-reviewed? When were they published? How well do they connect to your specific inquiry question?
